3 Gallon Hermann Churn

The flowers on this three gallon butter churn is a typical flower but highly exaggerated, turning the whole decoration into a single mass. It is stamped with the oval that reads C. HERMANN & CO. MILWAUKEE. It was apparently made by a potter names Christian Dauffenbach in 1867. He was living at 664 Market St. in Milwaukee and working at the Hermann stoneware factory. He was age 20 at the time. Later that year he moved to New Ulm and started a stoneware factory with two partners.
