C Hermann 4 Gallon Salt Glazed Jug

This four gallon decorated salt glazed jug has an exception triple flower decoration. It is later than most Hermann jugs and the decoration is much better than many. Apparently Hermann hired a potter who worked at Gunther for a while because the flower strongly resembles signed Guther stoneware. In fact, Th. Gunther worked for Hermann for four years so it is possible that he decorated this piece himself. It has the usual oval stamp that reads C. HERMANN & CO. MILWAUKEE, WIS. It was sold on eBay in 2007 for $2,225.
